JANIS EDWARDS’ Inspiration Point:

Growing up in Gearhart and Seaside gave me many memories of beach coming with family.

After a storm, we would walk the beach looking for treasures of the sea, that had washed ashore. It was exciting to find large and small Japanese glass fish floats and unusual shaped driftwood. During a low tide last year, my husband and I, were able to walk around Hug Point on ruts made from stagecoaches of the 19th century. It was very memorable walking on history.

On the beach there was a large, craggy weathered piece of driftwood.  This was my inspiration for a painting called "WEATHERED & WORN", in Dragonfires' show "INSPIRATION POINT". The textures and colors of this unusual shaped statue of driftwood gave it lots of character.  The influence of light against dark areas and its many textures and colors was very dramatic.  I live in the valley, but my heart is at the Oregon coast.  Colors, textures and the contrast of light against dark have always inspired my paintings.
