ARTIST STATEMENT

Obert was inspired to find his true calling in painting after seeing the work of Zimbabwean artist, Tendai Nhavira. As he devoted himself seriously to his craft, his work found success in galleries in both Zimbabwe and South Africa.

A textural signature to his work is a unique scratched finish. The final embellishment to each of his paintings, Obert sometimes does this  with closed eyes - knowing the subject deeply -  emphasizing the energy field or “aura” of each character or body he has created.

"I am a person who gets fascinated by almost anything and everything. These fascinations and curiosities pertain to the artistic mind within me, absorbing information and unleashing itself. I believe that it is crucial for any artwork to stand alone with nothing but a voice of its own. What I see and feel is art, so I paint!”
