TRIFON MARKOV
These were painted in the Portland Rose Garden right after sunrise because it had very good morning light from an angle. Very quiet. I would go from one place to another, so the painting would have varieties of different roses. Afterwards, I asked my friend to pose for me and we took a lot of pictures of her swimming and diving in blooming colors. Later I had to do a lot of sketches, because I didn't want her to look too realistic. Her face appears once - all others came from my imagination. Memories of summer 2021.
ARTIST STATEMENT
My artwork contains a few major themes influenced by nature and medieval age dwellers.
Often referencing the Renaissance period, my work explores the varying relationship between bright and vivid colors with melancholically romanticized scenes. Engaging the brightness of impressionistic flowers with the hard edges of a palette knife together with sketch-like delicate linework, it creates a new and modern style similar to graffiti art but more detailed and textured.
While I use a variety of techniques and styles, my goal is to find balance between them because I believe that art should be eclectic like in one of El Greco’s paintings. When a composition features two different styles, the theme of the painting unifies them. The subject of inspiration of each body of work determines the color and line expression. Each project often consists of multiple works, often in a range of different themes and meanings. During traveling in nature and researching in literature it creates new interests and leads to transformations similar to kaleidoscopes that can represent one subject from different angles.
